Who is my neighbor to me?

Speaker: Eric Marshall
Topics:

What keeps us from getting to know our neighbors better? Studies suggest time is the biggest obstacle (we’re a busy people). Fear is a close second (what if…). What do we learn from Jesus’ interaction with Mary and Martha about priorities, and boundaries? Martha is so busy with the urgent she misses the important. Mary prioritized the important and yet on this day urgent meal preparations clearly suffered. Sometimes we may need to give less energy to the urgent to prioritize the most important.  Text: Luke 10:38-42

Stuck in the Desert

Speaker: Eric Marshall
Topics: burdens, disappointment, Trust

We all fear the uncertainty of the future sometimes. Unemployment. Foreclosure. Illness. Family crisis. We might feel as though we are stuck in the desert like Moses. A desert where life is not as it once was, and the future still looks unclear. When we are in the desert, we can ask God our difficult questions, knowing He is big enough to handle them.  Text: Numbers 11:10–17

Revealed–What Christ desires in His Church Today…Be Undeterred

Speaker: Eric Marshall
Topics: embrace opportunity, faithful, unstoppable

Like the Church of Philadelphia, we have both opportunities and obstacles! God has set before us many open doors of opportunity. If He opens the doors, we must work; if He shuts the doors, we must wait. When we look to our own strength and ability, we see only obstacles before us. When we look to Jesus in faith, we see the opportunities! We can rest in the fact that Jesus holds the keys, He is in control of the outcome! So what do we have to fear?  Text: Revelation 3:7-13

The Image of God in a Fallen World

Speaker: Eric Marshall
Topics: racism, responsibility, the church

Sin destroys everything that touches it. God created all people to bear His image, but sin builds enmity between people based on physical distinctions. Followers of Jesus no longer regard others according to the flesh but see others as God sees them. We no longer live as oppressors and victims but as Children of God.   Text: Genesis 1:27; Ezekiel 18:1–4, 18:19–23; Ephesians 4:31–32; 2 Corinthians 5:16–17, Revelation 5:9–10

The Messiness of Church Growth

Speaker: Eric Marshall
Topics: conflict, Grace, law, mission

The success of the First Missionary Journey creates a dispute over the relationship of Gentile followers of Jesus and the Law. The dispute is graciously resolved, the gospel affirmed, and the church strengthened in mission.  Text: Acts 15:1-35

Grace for Life

Speaker: Eric Marshall
Topics: freedom, Grace, Life

Grace is a free gift that God gives us, but it is also a responsibility. Such a free gift, if misunderstood, can lead to abuse. Some might think they can now sin as they please because grace abounds to the sinner. But God’s grace enables the believer to live a new life.  Text: Philippians 2:12-13

Mind Games: Who Will You Believe?

Speaker: Eric Marshall
Topics: freedom, lies, Truth

Every thought we have carries with it a little spiritual power that can move us closer or further away from God. No thought is purely neutral it either leads us to freedom or slavery. What we believe depends on who we listen to—Jesus who speaks the truth or the devil who tells lies.  Text: John 8:31-47; 9:1-5
